Production: Sleeping Beauty
Location: Buxton Opera House
Date: December 9th – 31st 2017
This year’s panto is Sleeping Beauty, the popular fairy tale in which Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil maleficent and sent into a sleep for 100 years.
Fun filled from the beginning, it wasn’t long before the audience were joining in, booing and hissing, cheering and yelling “it’s behind you” – everything you want at a pantomime!
Maleficent (Johnathan Tweedie) was brilliantly evil, camping up the singing and dancing and were easily the highlights of the show.
Another highlight was Dame Nanny Nora (James Holmes). With a different wacky costume every time he came on stage, trying to chat up audience members and his out of time dance moves he had us laughing every time he came on stage.
Billy (Matthew Jay-Ryan) Aurora’s loyal friend was full of energy, taking every opportunity to get the audience involved, which the children loved.
Princess Aurora (Jessica Revell) was a little disappointing, with all the energy of the rest of the cast she came across a little too serious and lack lustre.
As always the stage setting, music and backing dancers didn’t fail to impress, really contributing to the experience of the production.
Overall I would definitely recommend this fun filled, family experience as an extra treat this Christmas……oh yes I would!!!
Don’t miss Sleeping Beauty, which is running from 9th- 31st December at Buxton Opera House!
